brumby motor swap

hey guys. not sure if this has been posted before, if it has i can't find it. i've just brought a MY pickup and i'm planning on starting work on it straight away. the big plan is for a wrx motor swap, but thats when i have more money. i have found a 88 l-serise turbo being broken. i was thinking of doing a motor swap. is there anyone who can give me a list of what i have get off the car, as it's far away and my misses would kill me if i had a car in bits parked in the drive!

Hey Beau,
Some will tell you to go for the EJ20G swap into the brumby (or BRAT). The amount of work for the EA82T is about the same as that for the EJ.
If you go with it you will need from the donor L series:
Computer and wiring loom.
Airflow metre and airfilter box
The exhaust extractors (headers) witht the Oxygen sensor
Might as well get the 5 speed box and drop that in the brumby while your at it. If its got rear discs/LSD grab them too. You'll also need the tailshaft.
I think thats all from the top of my head...

To put an EA82 in a brumby you will have to cut and re-weld the rails(too wide).Better off going for the EJ20.

ok. i didn't realise that the ea82 turbo motor was wider. is dohc? may as well wait for the ej20 motor then!thanks for the advise.

The only EJ20 motor which will fit without cutting the rails is a non turbo SOHC one.
Any EJ with twincam heads (such as the EJ25 or any EJ20turbo) will also require the chassis rails to be widened in a Brumby.
However the amount of cutting/widening involved is less than what is required for an EA82.
Either way the chassis rail widening job is not really that major - have a look around the forum for more info, there are some pretty good pictures and write-ups available. It's well worth doing - otherwise you are limited to inferior motors

I havnt read every single thread, but I have searched pretty hard. Where are the threads showing chassis wideining with pictures etc?

So this may be a little extreme to what your after for chassis rail widening, but if you only look at the chassis part you'll get the pic of what's needed. You won't have to fit another radiator support or take it off to do the job.
This is a piece of work done by wrx85, keep scrolling down, you'll get to section i'm talking about.

sweet! thanks for the link. i will be saving that one and keeping a very close eye on the project! looks like it's going to be sweet!
