just a curious question about how many K's on average you'd hope to get out of motors sitting in soobys from say 1985 to 92? EA82s, EJ22s n the like.

mainly asking to try and be convinced its ok to buy a 92 liberty wagon with 300 thou on the clock... :p

maybe also just a note on what to look out for if its about to pop?

With EJ22 Subaru motors what really matters is wether or not they've been thrashed and if they've had regular servicing or not.
Driven with respect and regular servicing they should last well beyond 300,000kms. Your best bet is to make sure you have a full history on the car.
Otherwise you can listen for any worrying knocks and have the compression tested. Also check if the oil is very dirty.

my bros lib has done 320 ish n it still a very strong motor its got no signs of it being rebuilt but leaks no oil water n used less fuel than my lib so it really depends on how it was treated but theres always a rebuild option

Mine now at 272,000kms and still going strong, estimate possible will reach 350,000kms. Oil is still always light brown and never burns oil so suppose it'll last for a while...
Cheers

haha, we had to blow the cobwebs out!
That was probably like 1% of the reaming it's had since then :)

yuhuh ok cool, but they can go longer depending on how rough and how much u wana screw up the rest of your parts... :p

and then i guess the option is to replace the motor. even tho im sure its in other threads, how much wud a swapover be?

For a proper recon motor with a garantee you'd be looking at upwards of $2500 I'd say.
If you just want another second hand one in reasonable condition obviously prices range a fair bit depending on condition and kms etc.
showthread.php?t=9851 <-- that's an example of (in my opinion) an overpriced one.
