The last EA i built i sealed the two blocks together with loctite grey max as this was what was listed by loctite supplier. my machine shop guy tells me to use the aviatin form a gasket goo so it won't interfere with clearances. I do not remember subaru using anything at all
what have you used ?

Three Bond Silicone Gasket is what you buy from Subaru or elsewhere if you like

When you have two surfaces with a matched machined finish, you only need to run a 1mm bead in the centre of the surface and bolt them up.
Whatever squeezes out on the outside will also be on the inside, let if all setup firm before running the engine.
The sealant will only be in the "tiny" voids left from machining, it will not stop the surfaces coming together.
Personally I prefer a grey silicone, gives a better look than red, even though three bond or "Nissan sealant" is the ducks nuts.

The tube of Three Bond I use is grey and looks a treat... I'm not sure of the code number off hand (as I'm away atm) but I can update you all with the number if you still need the info
