Ticking/knocking on ej25

i think i am not happy:(
just done the head gaskets on my ej25 and she has what sounds like lifter tick on the left bank only. because i didn't have the shims to properly adjust the tappets i set them as close to spec as i could but they were a Little looser than spec. I didn't think they would make this much noise. ( even the wife commented)
The thing is the sound seems to be coming from the head gasket area rather than the rocker covers:confused:

Can i adjust the lifters in the car and do i have to pull the timing belt off to do this or is there some real neat trick? (i really want the neat trick option)

if it's not the tappets are there any other ideas? I don't think it's piston slap because it had none before the work?

Now where is that 6mm bolt i lost??? LOL
(as a Qantas pilot once described it, it sounds like a midget in the engine with a hammer)

Any help is appreciated

the car is 97 but the motor is made up from a few different years. i say it's not hydralic because on top of the valve is only a cup and shim as far as i can tell there are no seals or any othing things indicating hydralic lifters. i could be wrong????

i have found that i'm not getting oil to the cam brgs so this could be my problem. i have oil to the head for sure as i pulled the plug at the front of the head and cranked the motor and oil came out. so i have to find out what is blocking the gallery????

In seeking to resolve the noise in the motor i found this tiny oriface in the head that had gat a tiny piece of somthing in it. this was blocking the oil flow to the cam shaft brgs. I also hope it was the cause of the knocking before i put it all back together to find i still have problems.

The pictures show the location of the oil plug and the ristrictor inside. I used a paper clip to clear it. Compressed air would work better i think. after clearing it i cranked the motor till oil cam out the oil galleries.

sorry the pics are a bit crap i still have to work out how else to upload bigger files.

after clearing out the restricter the first time it then blocked up a second time. *&^%& it all seems to be good now and i can see oil flowing on the camshaft when i remove the oil filler tube.

The main ticking noise i believe was caused by the tappets being too tight on the exhaust valves of cylinder number 2.

The power seems to have come back as well so hopfully i'm on the home stretch.
