MPFI Won't Start, Fuel?

Just put my EA82 MPFI back together (blown head gasket/cracked head). It won't start.

I feel it may be lack of fuel. If I pull the fuel in line off there seems to be a build up of pressure and there is fuel there. But no fuel in the return line. If I dribble a bit of fuel down the throttle body it starts and runs for a few seconds.

It has been sitting around for 3-4 weeks.

Is it possible to have an airlock? Do I need to or can I bleed the system somehow?

Any ideas much appreciated.

Thanks

Its EFI and runs about 37psi fuel pressure, that shuld be more than enough to clear an air block.

Can you hear the fuel pump cycle when you turn the key to on?

I had this trouble when i first started mine, try starting it with the maf unplugged.

Have you checked for codes?

Sure the fuel lines is connected correct place? Disconnect the main fuel line and turn the key see if the pump is feeding fuel (be aware you'll have fuel going everywhere so be prepared!)

I'm not getting any codes out of the control unit. Just the 7 short flashes for model designation.

There is fuel getting there and I'm sure I've got it hooked up right. The fuel in line goes to the pressure regulator.

What's the 'maf' ?

The MAF is the Mass Air Flow sensor, the aluminium thing bolted to you airfilter box. It measures the volume of air the engine is taking in.

The fuel line from the pump should connect directly to the fuel rail. The return line connects to the fuel pressure regulator.
This may be your problem

Thank you thank you thank you!

Problem fixed. It Starts and runs!

I did mark the fuel line when I took it apart but it wore off!

Oh well I know now.

Thanks again Gannon. You saved me again.

so that's why i use those cheap and nasty coloured zip ties !! same colour at each end before disconnect. I also use RED for cyl #1, BLUE #2, GREEN #3, YELLOW #4 - increasing number of letters for colour name as the cylinder number goes up. Beats liquid paper markings handsdown :)
