mine always stalled at 500rpm.
800 was a nice idle
something very wrong there....

damn thats high RPM for 100km
mine is 4speed manual and it does jsut on 3000 at 100 then at 140 its doin 4000 lol
but no it shouldnt stall that high.
like wraith said it should be below the idle (idle being aorund 800)
mine can do 450 pretty badly if its cold and with no choke
2500 must mean something is wrong

So basically your saying your car wont idle?? Or u have the idle set at over 2500rpm??
Surely your missing a decimal point there or am i just reading this wrong??
If im reading this right then of course 2500rpm for it to stall isn't right and there must be something seriously wrong in the carby.
Maybe we don't know what u mean by "stall test".

yeah the stall test is testing the stall of the torque converter not idle:)

it is when you hold brake down and throttle at same time and where the tacho comes up to is measuring the stall of the torque converter

depending on tyre size around 3000 is about right for 100kph

Thats a point... tyre size and i belive the gear box ratio will effect this. Also your car is an Auto isn't it?? You can't really compare and Auto with a Manual in this respect.

when i got car it sat on 4250rpm with 13inch at 100klm
now i have full 195 14's and managed to shave pretty much 1000rpm off for 100klm

Did a test once many moons ago had 2 rx's and my wag ,one 3.7 man and 3.9 man and my auto 3.9 rear but 3.7 front[all L autos run 3.7 fronts]We all had 27" tyres got about 2750 rpm to somewhere around 2800ish for the man and my auto was over 3000rpm.
On the stall test is it pulling away from the brake at 3000?Could just be a slipping auto aka flaring up

lol 200.....thats a bit low
nah the stall test on the tourqe covnerter wt did u try that for lol and i thought u needed the handbrake applied aswell as the footbrake (also heard it doestn do wonders for ur g/box and converter lol)

wt are u on about??????????
how do u do a stall test on a manual
and on an auto it wont pull away frmo the brakes coz teh torque converter doesnt let the gbox engage so to speak (from wt i understand)
whent he brakes are on hard and the accelarator is pressed the revs will only go to 2500 (or some other point for other makes maybe) no matter how hard/much the accelarator is pressed

That stall speed seems about right. I think the converter uses a hydraulic lock up clutch which if its failed will give a high RPM in top gear. I have the factore book at work you can call me om 0883496960 for info

Don't know if anybody know what it should stall at but I think we can safely say "not what it is right now".
Buy one of those basic recon kits, they are cheap and easy to install with the trans still in the car.
Maybe try changing the fluid first aswell. Make sure the fluid is at the correct level, this is crucial to the correct operation of an auto because they work on pressure.
I guess the torque convertor might need replacing too!
