Timing Mark Camshaft Gear EA 81

Post by Denzil » Tue Feb 15, 2022 9:15 am

I have a question about the Timing Mark on the Camshaft Gear on a EA81 Engine.
I have the Punch Mark aligned through the Chamfered Hole of the Crankshaft Gear, but what does this denote. It does not coincide with TDC of Number 1 Cylinder. Your expert advise is required as I can't find anything in my Manuals or the Internet.

The procedure you followed is to align the camshaft to crank shaft timing, this position may or may not line up with TDC, really it doesn’t matter. Just ensure you have the dot on the cam shaft showing through the crank hole with the chamfer and all will be good.

It might not make sense now but it will when it’s running.

It should take two rotations of the crank for those two marks to realign, if not something was out when you lined it up the first time. It should be easier than replacing a cam belt, with the exception of the engine assembly that follows ;)

Cheers

Thanks Bennie, yeah a bit confusing but as you said it will work out in the long run.
