Plastic speedo drive gear in gearbox 3.7 vs 3.9

This is something I should know but cannot remember, is the 3.9 diff ratio gearbox speedo gear smaller than the one in the 3.7 ratio gearboxes?

Same size and interchangeable, different amount of teeth.

My theory is that they are the same in the Gen1 series 1 as the L series 3.7 ratio box - Subaru I reckon swapped the diff ratio to 3.9:1 to match the increased the tyre diametre and swapped to a better 5th ratio for the EJ22.
In the Gen1 series2 I think that's when the 3.7:1 ratio box appeared for the liberty.
