Leone Engine Conversion
Leone Engine Conversion
Ok so i am new to subarus (im more of a rotary man)
I have a stock 1986 Leone 4 door. The engine is one its way out but the car is mint and i baught it for cheap.
So here is my question, I would like a NON TURBO injected motor that fits in pritty easy (Obviously they wont bolt stright in)
I mate has told me about the outback motors? 3.3l flat 6, would that fit? And obviously a rexxy motor but i really want as much torque as i can get.
I will be working it (Bored, head work, exhaust ect ect) And if possiable awd, Im not sure if you can do it but under the leone there is diffently the spot for the tailshaft and rear diff.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Adam

Have a good read around on these boards, most of your questions have been answered. You'd probably be wanting an EJ25 (2.5 NA) with an AWD conversion. Bit I don't get is you said NA then the 'rexxy motor'? Is that "rexxy" in the Subaru sense of WRX or the Mazda sense of RX-7? Both get called Rex's (even though there is actually a Subaru Rex, different again).
The six would require some very artistic mounting and plumbing to fit. There's no room for a radiator once you drop one in.
In my opinion, as always, you can't go past the EJ turbo motors. Yes the response is down a bit but once it's on boost there's plenty of torque and bang for buck it's the best EJ conversion. Yes, its a few more bucks but there's a whole load more bang.

Sorry i should have been more specific.
Yes by rexxy i mean the WRX. I really dont want to go turbo (Partly because i want to be a little diffrent, And the missus is on my back saying no)
Basically, I want a bit of stick and some torque to both take her off road and have some fun on the concreate.
I really dont know what else i can say/ask without knowing much about the subarus.

Have you checked out our CONVERSIONS forum?
An EJ20 turbo is probably the most torquey factory motor I've ever driven.
You can also look into a MPFI EA82, but then you'll be stuck with a 20 year old engine that's still not very flash.
Your best bet will be one of the SOHC EJ series, EJ18, 20 or 22 as found in Impreza, Forester and Liberty.
