gudgeon pin circlip install detail

Post by steptoe » Wed May 18, 2016 8:22 am

just looking at a packet of gudgeon pin circlips from a set of Lazorlite pistons made in Japan by Toto Sangyosha. circa 1982 by the looks !

There is a diagram printed on them to indicate the circlips should be installed so that when looking at each pistons gudgeon pin through the blocks bung plugs you should see the straight part of the clip point to the top of piston and be able to see both sitting opposite sides to each other such as like in a letter "U".
One side of the letter "U" is the inside clip, further down at the other end of the pin, the other side of the U and not line up in an unbalanced situation like " l " [lower case L not capital I :) ]

Looking through various manuals, none indicate such, actually, the way they are drawn would make them look like the unbalanced " l " look down the hole!

What manuals do ask is that the straight bit of the clip if it has a tendency to poke any way - that it be outwards
