Bell Housing - Sealing?

Hi all, first post...
Just in the process having the 85 L-series ready for the beach, been reading on Qld Suba that you need to seal the bell housing. Has anyone done this? What do I look for ?

I never did it and havn't heard of anyone else doing so .
I have done more sand work than I can remember and never had a problem , it was however on a MY fitted with an EJ18 and LSeries 5 speed , I would imagine that they would all be very similer so I wouldnt be worrying to much , do however make sure the rubber clutch inspection cover is there[which is at the top] or you could have a problem with sand and all sorts of unwanted crap going in there .

I've dragged the guts of a few L series' through the sand dunes and through the beach, burying the engine bay in sand - never had a drama - never sealed anything up. Just give em squirt with the hose when u get home. Thats the best thing about soobs - they just keep goin'

I think what the Qld Suba site refers to is the sealing of the lower inspection plate with silicon. It has its good and bad points, good keeps most of the nastys out, bad if nastys get in they cant get out. Mike has the idea of keeping the timing marks inpection cover sealed and you are usually ok
