350 Chev pistons in ej25

Post by BBoypebs » Sun Oct 18, 2015 8:57 am

Hi there,
Been a while since I've been on here. I've got an interesting question for you all. I've just purchase an ej25 SOHC that is an half finished project. The previous owner has bored it out to suit 350 Chev pistons so he could get a 2.7 displacement. Has anyone ever heard of this mod before?

I googled your querie and nothing came up.

I think it would be possible but I believe the conrods would need to be custom made.

I don't like the chances of the subaru conrods and gugeons fitting the 350 pistons.

Normally the engine becomes a stroker to get a displacement of 2.7 litres

So did a bit of a test fit. The 2.5 litre crank will not work without a 2mm shorter rod or a 2.2 crank. The rod bush can easily modified to fit the Chev piston pins. My next problem is the valve groves in the deck of the piston.

Cool build idea. I'll be following this!

Yeah should be interesting. One advantage of using these Pistons is the larger piston skirt. Down side would be the thickness of the piston bore remaining. Looks like I'll have to use the 2.2 crank as there may not be enough room at the bottom of the stroke.

Well come to the conclusion that this would be a waste of time. Been doing the measurements and the thickness of the bores will be too thin, especially if running forced induction. The piston domes are to high and would need to be milled to allow for the valves. So the plan is to resleeve the block and close up the deck.
So I going too have some 350 Chev pistons up for sale.

That's a bummer mate.

How do you re-sleeve a block with essentially a floating cylinder setup?

Cheers

So you completely bore the standard bore out and press in liners. Much stronger,
