If it is an older motor that has had a hard life and blows smoke, I don't think it would be a problem at all.

It is engine oil and not gear oil or an oil extender?

Otherwise go with 20w-50 oil.

Should not be used on its own, should be used with a 20w-50 style oil.

I use 4 litres of Gulf Western oil 20w-50 and half a litre of the Gulf Western oil extender.

It works a treat in my EJ22 motors, both of which have over 200000 kms and isn't that expensive.

Would this be true for any older gen motor? My ute is blowing blue smoke on hard revs sometimes and after coasting down hills, probably piston rings. Wondering if a thicker oil would help or hinder.
Will it ever end!?

If you are using a thinner weight oil you may want to go to a heavier oil next change.

20w-50 is recomended for most older motors that have high KM's. I wouldn't use the 20w-60 on its own, as it is very thick and could cause upper engine problems on cold starts.

I see, I had thought thicker oil would be bad in winter. I use only 20w50 changed regularly. I guess an old motor is an old motor no matter what you put in it :)
