Gday all.
Im about to undertake a basic service on my XS 2.5l forester. 230,000klm.
Drop the oil, replace it & oil filter. Replace fuel filter.
I asked the bloke at Bursons how much oil it took (4.2L)
Is this correct?
Any tips or other "must do" checks?
The car has stayed in the shed for the last year.
Cheers in advance
oZ.

I would check all the brakes - pads - flexible lines - calliper pins - and while I had the wheels off change the brake fluid ---- also freshen up the trans fluid (you can get about 3 litres out) - check diff oil levels - new coolant - freshen up the power steering fluid (syphon out and refill) - tyre pressures.

The service manual inside your glovebox should give you a good indication of what is require on your service interval but if she's been sitting for this long, I'd check the tyre condition and also run a bottle of fuel octane booster/cleaner. BTW, 4.2 sounds right to me but I like to use 4.5 as the EJ25 tend to burn a bit during services.
You know you are getting old when the candles on your birthday cake start to cost more than the cake itself.
