Hey guys, getting some bad noise out of my rear diff when turning at low speeds so looking to get a replacement from the wreckers.

Though Jolly's from what I've been looking through only have 2.2l autos for the Gen 2 liberty.

There are outbacks there of the similar vintage also 2.5l auto like mine, would the diff bolt straight into mine or the ratios different?

You need the sticker on the side of your transmission so you can then find out what ratio yours is then you can match it that way.

cool, so the ratio should match and then the splines will be the same for the rear drive shafts? :-)

I'm putting money on the issue being a rear drive shaft. Wind down your windows and do figure 8s in a car park listening, you'll hear it on one side more than the other - this will work out which side hopefully.
Or you've got a dead bearing that only makes noise as it's loaded left/right.

As for you actual question - you need to know which driveshaft each subi uses as there was a change at some point from male output stubs on the diff to a female setup where the driveshaft has the male stub on it. This will be the key, the second thing is finding the correct ratio. Driveshafts *should* be interchangeable between the models with the correct diff in use, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

Shouldn't be the drive shaft.

Replaced that within the last 12 months. :-)

I wouldn't rule it out!

Or a bearing - right hand corners making the noise but not the left? If so, rear left bearing...
