EA82 injectors NA & turbo are different

Post by steptoe » Sun Sep 14, 2014 10:12 pm

I was surprised to read RSR say he was not aware there were different injectors for EA82 when I mentioned it. He may have been tired when he typed it, so won't hold it against him.

Here is a few pics. Light grey for NA, red for turbo.
Parts manuals list a third ring colour for some models and don't list grey ?

then, have read that VL Commodore ala Nissan injectors squirt a bit more, as do some 280Z's did with the fuel pipe tail type injector - no pics

Yeah but that's just a retainer on the push lock hose, are the part numbers on the injectors different?

While talking injectors, I advise that at any time you remove an injector or fuel rail that you replace the fuel hose. I had the driver side rear injector hose split and spray fuel all over the engine, lucky it wasnt all over the hot turbo

funny question coming from the man that sort of access ??? Answer is yes, just the red and grey does not compute - might read white and brown ....or maybe the part number and colour difference is for early and later electrical differences ??

My hunch would be that they are different. What was the stock turbo boost, 7 lbs? needs to supply an extra 50% of fuel over the n/a engine. Its possible that the n/a engine just runs the shorter PW%. I can measure the duty cycle on my n/a if you like. If it goes over 60 or 70% they are too small for the turbo.

Regards

Doug

it would not hurt for trivia to be stored in cyberworld. Not playing with injectors at the moment myself. Started thread based on comment from RSR ages ago, when the site had more action ....

I remember seeing an rb30 and wondering that.

There was a thread on usmb years ago ( like 8 years ago) where someone did a flow vs pressure test on various ea injectors. Dunno if it would still be there.

Are you sure these injectors are just Series 1 and Series 2 EA82 injectors? as I've got an EA82T manifold that has exactly the same injectors as my 1989 EFI Touring Wagon

hmmm, not many mpfi in Series 1 I suppose - just NA and turbo Vorts. I got red ones from my 85 build GLTA that was likely the original engine. The light grey came from 89 mpfi NA touring wagon. Not looked close enough at injector body themselves to see differences yet.
