Hey, just wondering what fuel people use in their Subarus? Premium?

I try to use the mid grade 95. It will run on anything tho.

If you have a turbo vortex, run it on 98 only.
The engine would have been designed for 95, but with 98 in in, you should be able to advance the timing by a degree or 2 and get a few more horsepower out of it

One EA82T is running 109 RON, my Vortex EA82T likes the Caltex/Woolworths Vortex 95

I run my vortex on 91 mind you I have an EJ22 in her and a computer that will let me run on 91

But for the turbo use premium

As these car were designed and built to run 100RON fuel in Japan, then 100RON fuel from United Fuels is your best option but I'm not convinced that the ethanol in it is any good for Subaru engines. I've seen many different reports. I prefer to use BP Ultimate 98 in my cars. I find they perform so much better and even get more kms per tank full.

If you are talking about using it in your Vortex, then I'd return with higher octane fuel and you'll get the most out of your engine.

if you have a metal fuel tank, you don't want any ethanol percentage fuel in it for any great length of time.

I ran E10 95 (only premium available) in my EA82T for 2 years an have run E10 91 in my Outback for over 4 with no issues

So am I just wasting primo fuel by filling my Brum with 98 every week?

Only a recent change, but the engine runs so so much better with it. More power in every rev range and no more pinging full stop. It's worth the extra money to feel the extra go every time I put my foot down in top gear

The dentist says sugar is no good for your teeth I say therefore it is no good for your engine. Ethanol is pure sugar end of story. It will eat everything like it eats teeth. You can't convince me to put that stuff anywhere near a vehicle I own. I came to OZ from Zimbabwe a long time ago and saw what government mandated ethanol ratio's did to perfectly good engines there. My advice is DON'T do it

Not touching ethanol. If its meant to be 100 RON, what about Premium with an added octane booster?

The handbook for AUDelivery says engine was designed to give satisfactory performance and low emissions on 95 RON
And reading further in the booklet for Australian Models states was designed to run on 90 or higher unleaded
Does not differentiate between NA or turbo models

in short "not good for Subies" then ?

That was my own conclusion after I used it just once. Then I went back to 95 or higher.

I use 100 from United in my JDM WRX engine as that is what they are designed for. Im not sure it offers any benefit at all over BP98 however it is much cheaper also so win win.

I found the difference from something like caltex 91 - BP 98 was enormous when I had an NA. At least a 15% increase to fuel economy and decent performance boost.

I have used E10 in my Forester just the once, it ran like a sick dog at the track, never again will i put E10 in a car I own.

My mate has a 2013 Honda CRV 4WD VTi-L + ADAS 2.4L i-VTEC, he put E10 in 2 weeks ago and it was returning 13 L/100k around town where on 95RON he was getting 9.5 L/100k, he too has vowed & declared never to use E10 again.

He used to use E10 in his Subaru Imprezza before he sold it and it jerked and shuddered badly.
