Anyone out there got a list of the 90-94 Brumby 4x4 manual Gearbox bearing No's or info where u can get a gearbox repair kit. I picked up to 2 unk. condt. Brumby Boxes for $60 ea. One spins quietly by hand the other is noisy.

I think you might be having fun trying to track down a rebuild kit, but in my experience with other gearboxes they dont use proprietry bearings, so all you do is pull the bearing out and take it to your local bearing shop and buy the same one. The seals are probably the one thing you will be able to buy easily enough or order in.

As for gaskets, every gearbox ive seen repaired professionally came back with gasket goo of some kind. I have used Three-bond before and its worth the price.

Appart from bearings, seals and gaskets, what else is in the kit, as other parts are often needed.

Yeah Greg, this kit only has the bearings, seals and gaskets which in 50% of the 4 speed boxes I've rebuilt, this is all that was need. If any more items are required, i.e. gears, synchro, etc.. then it's best to buy another box for $100 and use parts from that, as these other bits are (or probably not anymore) available from Subaru. Most 4 speed boxes I've done only require bearings but I try and convince the owners to upgrade to 5 speed transmissions.

Thanks Paul, MY 3/4 synchro rings are not available from Subaru anymore, most of the used ones are worn out, getting harder to source.
Always looking at options for gearbox parts.

Yeah, it's a shame that these cars get old, as the Brumby is still a big favourite for many farmers.

Not sure if any other manufactures use the same sized synchros in there boxes.

Thanks mate I've got a couple of Brumby boxes I'll rip the the crap one apart and see if I can get bearings to match. Synchros are the problem.

Sometimes the synchros just require a clean up and check that the cone gear isn't worn where the synchro ring sits against.

If they are too worn, then pull apart another box until you find some good ones.

I have tried that theory, I'm still stripping MY boxes for good 3/4 synchro's, none found, yet.

hahaha.. so I know who to call when I need some spare 4 speed parts
