4 speed gearbox (gear 3.9) and EJ254

a link for an adapter plate between MY 4 speed and an EJ25 ? Any links ? The MY 4 speed gearbox is not strong enough for EJ25 power output.

I'm still looking for a better way to combine the EJ254 and 4-speed transmission, the adapter plate to make no problem, but as I understand it is better to set the 5-speed gearbox for the EJ254?! then begs the question of what to look for manual transmission vehicles to stay home or cardan shaft drive have to put with outboard bearings?

someone tell me what a manual transmission TW70F8E1-DU? how many speeds, what gear ratio?

The 4 speed will survive behind the EJ25 SOHC engine without any issues. I'f got 2 customers that have them and never had any issues with the gearbox.

If you're going to make the adaptor plate then I would suggest you make it from no less than 12mm thinkness. I prefer to use 13mm as it's easier to come by and it also gives clearance for the flywheel away from the starter motor.

Speaking of flywheel, I would use the 4 speed flywheel but make sure it's the 9"/225mm (not the 8"/200mm one) and redrill the bolting pattern to match the EJ crank. I would also use the 225mm clutch setup from the 4 speed, so everything matches the gearbox.

If you want to go the 5 speed you'll need to do a lot of work to make it fit, i.e. crossmembers, tailshaft modification, gear linkage modification, etc...

I ran an EJ22 on a 4spd, survived fine and it got an absolute belting (in WackyBug) but I guess we didn't run it over a few long period though.

In my experience, always best to use the clutch/flywheel which matches the gearbox.

we have the experience to install a 5-speed gearbox on the Forester 2001, Manual of Leone 2WD/4WD/4WDLOW, put a 15mm adapter plate, the machine is now on the go! http://myforester.ru/topic14846.html

Maybe you can post up a picture of the gearbox for us to see? Even a close up picture of the 'TW' number might also help?

As for the ratio, turn the gearbox upside down and remove the drain plug. Make a paint mark on one of the crown wheel teeth, then rotate the front diff (using the front drive shaft stubs) and count the teeth on the crown wheel.

The drain plug is at the bottom of the gearbox. You'll need to drain any oil first. You will need to check this before putting in the car. The diff number you list is a 3.7, so if your gearbox is 3.9 then it will drive like crap in 4WD.

Are you unable to take pictures of your gearbox?

The only other option I see for you (if you're still not sure) is to make a post on USMB.

photos done today and took video switching gears, I can just put all tomorrow night, forgot the camera at a garage in the BRAT

Title of the topic is no longer relevant, above already answered (4 speed gearbox stand EJ254), I have a second manual transmission and rear diffirentsial whose gear ratio is 3.9

Manual transmission, which I gave TW70F8E1-DU is now on the machine.

Ok.. no worries. We try and work throught this.

From the pictures, I can see that this a 4 speed dual range EA81 gearbox. I'm not aware or have ever seen a 5 speed dual range with this sort gearbox casings. As I've rebuilt many of these gearboxes, I cannot see how they could fit the 5th gearset in them. There was a 5 speed available for the EA81 but it was only available in 2WD.

So, with this new transmission code, I believe your gearbox to have the following ratios...

1st 3.666
2nd 2.157
3rd 1.266
4th .885
Rev 4.100
Low 1.462
Final 3.7

Is it the original gearbox or do you think its been replaced at some time?
