50,000km service 2011 Forester Diesel

Just over a week ago I had my wife's Forester serviced at Jarvis Subaru in Adelaide city. Dial shows just over 57,000 kms, so first major service plus a/c treatment and in cabin pollen filter replaced, came to $871.85. Customer service at the dealership was fantastic and I'm reasonably happy with the service but just short of a grand for a service is obviously a considerable chunk out of anyone’s back pocket, is this on par with what others have paid, just out of interest?

Ouch.

No idea on the overall value however as I've not been to a Subaru dealer for a service before. The local guy in his truck I use is usually about $400 for the full service, but $800 got me a new clutch and master cylinder last time I needed one in the Foz.

I keep meaning to dress up and go to the dealer and try the new BRZ out...

I got caught once and once only with that washer fluid crap.
The Dealership tried it on a 2nd time and I challenged them on it as I had filled the washer bottle myself before leaving home, they took it off the invoice.

That was the last time they ever saw me or my Subaru.

Well, compared to a VW Tiguan its cheap.

Tiguan diesel auto first major is at 60,000kms. $1390. Thats because "it has a DSG gearbox...meaning sir, its two gearboxes in one". Yeh right. I wont tell you the price of a new windscreen...."thats because it has a unit that detects the moisture on the windscreen for the automatic wipers".

Sold the car.

I go to non brand good mechanics now that can cover warranty.

Tony was that a metro VW dealer or country ? There have been some different prices for same service from dealers between populations maybe if only to beat the city pricing.

Gees, that washer fluid charge - wonder if it was labour included to check and top up.

Love the one who topped up prior to service :)

Last lot of tyres I bought new went on to bare rims supplied and no need to remove or fit to car. They hit me for tyre disposal of 2.75, but then only charged for one balance, one tube tit, one fit, ended up 40 bucks cheaper than quoted on the four :D

I asked the Service Mgr how could they put the washer fluid when I had already pre-filled it before bringing the Forester in, he said they drained some out and then put it in .............. that's when the shit fight began.

'could start a thread on service not happy with ....a good one is where real 4WD's been in for dealer service which included check diff oil levels, later inspection only due to the special request to dust and adjust handbrake, was verbally confirmd as done,charged for but not done until owner did it himself that night :( visual inspection of plug showed road grime not wiped, dust not disturbed on either diff. Concern was these 4WDs were cleaned well, after off road, so looked like city dwellers. Chance may be that water has got into diffs, so not only level but oil quality needed inspection during service - not the assumption that there were no signs off diff oil leak at plugs, gaskets or seals which is the way the manager allegedly admitted how the inspect diff oil levels was done - when grilled. Same observations were made by next family 4WD that went in soon after - Current Affair style inspection before and after .....

Gday Mate

I have a Diesel outback and get mine serviced at Eblen Glenelg. My understanding is that the running gear on these things are pretty much the same so I would have thought servicing would be similar??

I have listed the cost my service below:
50000km - $477.40
62500km - $485.75 ($177.00 labour)

I put both down as it appears some of the stuff you got down in the service was things that got down in my 50000km service? I didn't get the pollen filter done for that service. I usually do mine every 3rd service.

What is that breathe easy things they charged you $56.86? I thought that is what the pollen filter did?

Some of your charges seemed a bit pricey?? I thought Eblen was expensive!! I have been thinking about giving S&J at Edwardstown a go. Heard lots of positive things about them from other Subaru owners.

You would be coming up to a new set of tires soon. I put Coppers on mine around the 80000km mark and have now have done 153000km on the clock. They will still probably do another 30000km. Thats with me not following their routine tire rotation you are suppose to do every 10000km.
