EA81 Brumby Valve clearance

Hi all,

While i've got the engine out on the bench waiting for my new clutch i thought i'd check the tappets. (OHV)
Something i couldn't find in my Gregorys was a diagram of the piston order. I would imagine 1 and 2 on the left 3 and 4 on the right, just need the correct order if that doesn't sound too silly.

It is embossed onto the top of the block at each cyl

1 front drivers side
2 front passenger side
3 rear driver side
4 rear passenger side

valve clearance
inlet 0.23- 0.27
exhaust 0.33- 0.37

I thought i'd seen them, but as the engine is up on the bench, they were just out of sight.

I'll chime in here and sort you guys out, so you guys and others understand.

EVERYTHING in a motor vehicle is referenced from the drivers seat.

So the RHF guard, or indicator , or wheel , or in this case engine cylinder numbering, the RH cylinder head is the drivers side, no matter where you look from.

I see this too often where a customer complains LF indicator inop intermittently,
where it is actually the RIGHT HAND FRONT that is faulty.

That's interesting, never knew that! In any case the numbers are stamped on the block, just on the block side of the headgaskets I think. A number inside a circle.

I concur. I too used to get mad when I would send parts out to customers who ordered LHF indicator but needed the RHF. Always felt like hitting them over the head with it.

That drivers seat info is very interesting. Most people think it's standing in front of the car, as did i.
Had a quick look for those cylinder numbers on the block this morning. spotted!

Over here they use OFFSIDE and NEARSIDE from the drivers seat , offside being passengers side and nearside the drivers side. (thats assuming your not driving a left hand drive ) LOL "MO"

yeah. even in a LHD the right hand side is still the right hand side - Gary never said whether the terms are used for RHD car - just from where the driver sits and looks forward - everything to the right hand side of the centre line is usually referred to as the right hand side. Off side and nearside is a technical term used by those in the know who wish to confuse or just pee on your tree to let you know you are not as good as them ! nearside and farside I would understand, onside and offside also, but mix two languages !!
