Noisy tappets on 233k ea82t engine

Can pick up a clean road car rx turbo with 233k on the clock for 2k In Melbourne but it has noisy tappets which stuff the timing on the car.

Rang a few 2nd hand suba repairers that have quoted about $700 to fit a new oil, pump and seals and the compulsaory belts whist the engine is out.

What other options do I have to fix this problem considering the k's on it,

I've heard about a 15w50 oil may help but realistically?
What should fitting another oil pump cost as $700 seemed high even with the other things added in.

What price to buy & fit a jap ea82t engine in thats prob done 120k's considering doing that as I have seen them as low at $495 over the years some places fit for free when trying to move stock

Anyone help?

nice for 2g's i'd buy it if i didn't have one already,
the noisy tappets are easy to fix just get some superX engine treatment stuff that works well.

Can you elaborate the process I should follow, is this a oil additve or a whole oil flush that you do then put a normal oil back in again? A suby guy I spoke to said I should replace the oil pump and seals as well but I guess its worth a shot esp since I can probably do the oil change b4 I buy

still would like comments from u all on the other items I mentioned

SuperX is an oil flush. Add it before the oil change, run car for 10 mins, change oil.

That stuff probably works better if you poor it directly down the nearest drain!

hm well that was my experience anyway, not the slightest hint of a difference - i guess it has worked for other people tho 8O
Probably worth a try before you fork out 700 smackers.

Try Shell ECO 10 oil first 10 - 30. Failing that..........
Oil pump seals, oil pump shaft, all front seals and cam belts is under $500 with the engine in, why are they pulling it out?
Next its lifters out. 19 out of 20 times this works

I'll try the oil thing b/c I can do that b4 I buy, good one on the engine out thing i'll mention that to the repairer, will certainly get a few quotes.

Do the work yourself for around $40 in seals for the oil pump and then another $30 for cam belts and a days fun and its all done.

Got a virgin $139 flight booked for you from qld you can give me a hand lol.

U saying you can do it without taking the engine out? and can the work be done from the bonnet or under the car?

I'm not bad with cars, though cam belts have given me grief in the past hmm you have me thinking

Its really a very easy reasonable job to diy. I'd say to pull the radiator out, because it makes the job so much easier from the front. May as well replace the oil pump while your there..for a 233kk motor you should.

steve is asking why they need to remove engine to do this - he is one resident expert. Belts are a cinch to do in car, but to do the tappets for first timers is a lot easier out of car, especially if you have an old back/neck

tappets are about 60 bucks each or more need eight to do proper job
