If you didn't already know - there was already an FB post ages ago on one of the Subaru group pages, asking to put expressions of interest to this website: http://www.caplocker.com/

Which I did, didn't think much would come of it. Since then though I received an email from them (around January) I think it said they had enough expressions of interest to make it viable and were looking at sample diffs to get the design. Also asking who would be comfortable paying a deposit so they could get the manufacturing going. I haven't seen or heard anything beyond that since then, and in typical FB group fashion I can't find any record of any of this  This is why forums are so much better. You'll just have to trust me  Also the deposit was something like $1k and finished cost close to $3k  But then this is no easy thing they're trying to do, with the kind of work that goes into a project like this I think that is reasonable.

I'd like to track down an R180 locker and fit that. A little bit heavier but nothing like another idea I had!

I doubt I'd be buying something new like that cap locker. Cool that it's happening or has the potential. If I ever get a newer Subaru I might consider it.

Cheers

As far as I know the project you mentioned Sam fell on its arse, the company has no longer any interest in it as the guy who was working on it left / split with them ... ( not sure on all the details )

Just did some sketching for the new diff, will post it here later ... :)

I gotta say, I take my hat off to you and your ability to draw such accurate drawings like that.

So what's the game plan from here?

Oh :( That's a shame, it looked promising too.

Well then time to jump on the new bandwagon - hopefully this one comes to fruition ;)

Post by Bantum » Fri May 26, 2017 7:27 pm

Latest news in - I've pulled apart my 5MT to assess its condition & can report that it looks good ( no major damage ) ... :)

- Oh and I can report that the front & rear diffs are definitely not the same, front is bigger by about 10% - Will post up some pictures later ... ;)

Yeah the front diff is considerably larger than the rear.

I heard someone worked out that the front diff is/could be fitted with some Dana diff. I don't know the details but I believe they fitted some sort of locker up front. Info was very hard to find to verify this - otherwise I'd be all over this!

Mind you the front LSD is better for onroad use over all in the centre locking L series AWD box - I can easily lift the inner front wheel turning right around roundabouts with a bit of throttle :???: The LSD keeps me moving forward though ;)

I think you'll find that the r180 is much closer to the size of the front diff.

Cheers

Yeah the latest update from FB seems to be the guy who runs a VW customisation business already has an R160 locker project underway and expects it to be ready in ~July.

Hmmm... Very nice!

Now the big question is how do we fit them in the front and rear diffs??

That would make my L series the ultimate AND go beyond my original built goal (already done that :D)

I doubt the vagon diff would fit in the r180 :/

Cheers
