Hi I'm Cam I just bought a 1993 L series GL nice little runabout especially since i live in the hills!
all thats stopping this car being a little beast is the shot CV joints...

so hows the best way about replacing them?

some people say the whole shaft is easier but thats $240 for 2 shafts.

or replace the outer boot which works out to be $86 for both.

thanks for any help in advance and i look forward to contributing to this forum :)

hey mate, welcome.

are they clicky? no point changing the boots if the actual joint is stuffed.

personally id go for new shafts, then you know theyre good and will probably last the life of the car.

Yeah go a new set - I've just been playing around with my CVs to save a few dollars only to have them click worse than before (did the swap side trick) and split a boot again anyway. So I've got another set of old ones I had lying around installed that also click, just not as bad...

I'm working out wether to get a new set or not - got a few things on the go but a new set would solve my problems for a while...

Life of the car... unless you've got an EJ  A few hills, couple of corners a bit of throttle or more - you get the idea

Welcome.

If your life is up and down the freeway, your EA82 will be okish...if not a bit noisy!

CV joints are easy DIY - go new units.

Plenty of info on here re: squeezing all one can from an L, or go the EJ!
