Hi, haven't been on this forum since my son rolled the L-Series last year. I now have a new project.

Can the EJ22 motor be swapped from an auto car to a manual car? All I want to do is swap motors over, anything I need to change or check on? Is it easier to drop the motor or lift it out?

You can use a EJ22 mbehind either manual or auto.. the engine are the same, you'll just need to swap over the obvious things like flywheel/clutch but everything else is the same

Engine will need to be lifted out as the crossmember is in the way of dropping it out the bottom

People have different opinion about taking out engines. For me due equipment I have I find easier to pull engine out with gearbox attached from top while cross member still attached to the chassis with Radiator removed first.

I think the starter motors are different from auto and manual ..... I think ....
Depth of throwout ???

Frog the depth of the throw out is a little different but the main difference is the size of the mounting hole the starter motor sits in. the automatic starter has a bigger mounting hole and the flange hole on the gearbox is bigger than for the manual starter on the manual gear box.

Ah yep , alarm bells were ringing

starter bolts to the gearbox so that really doesnt matter.

one thing that is different is there is a guide on the timing belt in the manuals to stop the timing belt skipping a tooth. its not fitted on the autos. This wont be a showstopper though. plenty of people have converted to manual without worrying about this.
