1982 MY touring wagon gearbox/diff

My 82 MY touring wagon was originally an auto but I converted it to a dual range, 4 speed manual 4WD about 8 years ago.
The box I put in was not exactly "perfect" when I got it from the local wreckers but it was OK.
It is a 3.7 ratio (sticker on the diff) but now the gox is getting a bit tired. It occasionally grinds when going up from 1st to 2nd or back from 3rd to 2nd and it is a hit or miss situation when trying to find 4th as sometimes it ends up trying to go into somewhere between 4th and reverse. There appears to be no major gear stick slop though there is a bit there.
I dont have the time, patience or need to go through an L series 5 speed conversion so I would be happy to go with another dual range 4 speed to bolt straight up to the EA81.

My questions are

- does the 3.7 ratio have advantages/disadvantages over the 3.9 (I think this is the other option) or should I go for another 3.7.
- What are the other EA81 gearbox ratio options. ?
- what EA81 4 speed dual range manual gearbox options are there for my 82 wagon as I was looking to find the latest model Brumby from a wreckers and grab its box and diff (if not 3.7)

I run 185/70/13 tires and everything else is standard apart from the 2" lift.
Any thoughts appreciated. I dont do any any beach running only bush driving if the opportunity arrises (there are no beaches in Muswellbrook NSW - about 150ks from Newcastle)

MV Brumby was made up until 92 and then the latest ones got 94 compliance plates I hear. Only ever seen 3.7:1 diffs in these, I'd stick with 3.7 unless you thought you'd gain somethng in hill crawling with 3.9. Still 19 year old 4 speeds could be pretty hairy in these by now too.

If you not have patience for conversion, I hope you have patience for getting another 4 speed to find it is similarly worn. I have an old four speed DR in the shed that was sncking on down shift to third, needed a new slector oil seal annually and front seal started to dribble. I think I hang on to it for spares for when my curent 4 speed diff whine gets too much.

Would reconditioning be an option? (if its possible?)

$1500 option depending on parts needed.

Ah righto, guess that would be the last option then.

Just so I am clear on this.
Am I right in saying ANY brumby gearbox will be a straight fit into my 1982 MY touring wagon or only up to certain dates of manufacture ?

any MY gearbox from 1982 -1992 will fit in your touring wagon.

there are 4 different clutches, 2 small ones 200mm, 21 spline and 24 spline and 2 bigger ones 225mm, 21 spline and 24 spline.

the L Series box will go in as well but you would need to look at this thread to get an idea of how much work is needed to get it to fit properly.

there was a 3.9 dual range 4 speed box made but it was imported from Japan and hens teeth or rocking horse fecal matter are easier to come by.

Thanks all the info everyone
I will chase a dual range 4 speed as time permits and make sure I can get accurate info on the month/year of the doner car to ID what clutch to use.
The L series would have been OK from e bay and it is located only about an hour away.
