G'day all,

I'm having trouble removing the stubs from a R160.
I've undone all I can see but I can't pull them out?

Cheers,
Samuel

Have you undone the torx bolts in the stub axles themselves.

I used an 8mm deep socket to get mine out. I got a supercrp $11 deep socket kit, decided if I broke the socket it wasn't the end of the world. Once you have these bolts out the stub axle should easily pull out from the diff...

Yes, that is correct. Without removing these bolts you've got not chance of removing the stub axles...

Being a 4.11 , are you sure it a male shaft. If it is , there should be a hole in the centre of the shafts. At about level with the seal but inside the shafts, there is a torx bolt.

If there is no hole in the stub. The rs liberty uses c clips to hold the stubs in. I used a old cv joint and put it on my slid hammer

When I tried with a normal socket I rounded the bolts. Ruined the stubs getting them out.

So next time I needed to remove them from another diff I bought a small 1/4" socket Torx Deep E socket set from the UK with the E10 socket for $50 odd.

Just had a look at an R160 happen to have close to me (Open not LSD), appears to have some kind of tamper proof bolt, similar to torx.

unfortunately it is nothing like that.

there is a 4x5mm hole in the center with nothing in it!

must be clips somewhere?

use a inner cv joint put the roll pin back in and connect a slide hammer and the stub should come out in 2 or 3 hits or even a pry bar between the diff and joint that u have refitted and pry the shaft out

if this makes sence

Can we get some pics of the diff and stubs H-top as we're either talking about different diffs or something funky is going on...
