basically changing cv's in my car, i've done the front right and got to front left and nut refuses to crack to an extent where i snapped a fairly high quality breaker bar on it..... dad said that some old fords have left hand thread on the left side for somethings was just wondering if anyone can tell me for sure that it is regular right hand thread. cheers

it is a normal thread.

heat her up.

its also amazing how well smashing it afew times with a hammer works.

also a super dooper breaker bar. Find a strong piece of metal pipe and use it as an extension.

It is usually torqued up to 150ft/lb which is bloody tight. If it has been there for a few years, it could take quite a bit more force to crack it. I used a 3/4" rattle gun to undo mine.

yeah it really calls for 3/4" gear to work with that nut sometimes. I've busted a half inch breaker bar on one once too.
Get a 3/4" breaker bar and socket and go to town with a big long extension.

Ask yer dad if it was maybe Valiants that had the left hand thread on the left hind side! Coz it wasn't Falcons. Yep, been there and broke a damn fine half inch breaker bar on same thing. Upgraded to a 3/4" breaker and socket to match, bit of water pipe sleeved over bar for extension and no wuckers from there on.

I usually get a car jack like a bottle jack and put it under the breaker bar and jack the the thing up, that usually sorts it out!
I also have a 3/4" /18" ratchet that brooks no nonsense either!

borrowed a breaker bar off my cousin who's a heavy duty diesel mechanic did the trick quite easily :) cheers for the info though.

I found my 3/4" breaker bar at a swap meet a few years back a little rusty from the seaside somewhere but think it was Sidchrome - ten bucks! Have spent more than that in fuel each time I have borrowed and returned a mates in past years
