Hi,

I am looking for some help to diagnose a problem I have got in my Subaru.

Model: Subaru Impreza G-S Oct 07/06 sedan 90,000kms

It is a squeeling noise coming from the rear of the car, It is when I apply the accelerator after about 55-60kms in any gear it starts to squeel, If I take my foot off the accelerator it goes away but than straight back on, it comes back. It is either faint or sometimes really load.

So far I have had my mechanic replace the rear diff oil, This was apperantly black when it came out and he put a new LSD 90 grade oil in there which was advised by the local subaru dealer. This did not change the problem one bit.

I am just not sure what I should do with the next step, It has been serviced, all the wheel bearings are okay. The car is in great condition underneath with no leaks. It doesnt seem to effect the performance of the car in any way.

Would really apperciate some help if any one has had the same problem.

Sounds like your rear diff internals are having issues - possibly a problem with the LSD centre...

Is it really only after 55-60 kilometres? Are the rear tyres the same tread depth/wear? If not you've probably worn out the LSD.

I'm sure others will have ideas as to what it could be, but without seeing your subi and hearing the noise its hard to make an educated guess

and welcome to the forum!

Try asking your mechanic to diagnose the problem for you too.
With some careful time spent test driving perhaps he can pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
I'm not bad at figuring these things out but of course I need to check the car out haha. Is it possible you could try making a recording of it and posting it up on here?

A recording would be difficult but anything is possible, I will give it a go on the weekend to try get this sorted..

My mechanic has heard the noise but all he can only diagnose so far that it is in the rear but we have not had enough time to go through step by step..

Regarding my tyres, they do need to be changed but I recently have had them all wheel alligned and still nothing changed.. But intersting thing is when i got my car back they said something about my or in the drive train and they thought there could be a problem. Anyone got a set of 18 or 19" rims they want to sell..

I will try get as much information as possible and go from there..

could even be a stone stuck in the brakes....just a simple shit idea, but a possibilty

Where do you suggest to pick up a rear diff for this car. I will need to look at pricing and stuff etc.. Before making decisions.

If it is an LSD Ill swap you. Or what you can do is drive it while its up on a hoist and use a stethoscope or failing that a bolt rubber hose and a funnel to make one up! If you can tell me the ratio of the diff then I might have one to substitute for a test run!
