Gas system info
Gas system info
i've been trying to find some information on the net as to the requirements of the gas tank and system testing with little luck as i need to take a car with a gas system installed over the pits. the car is fitted with the plate stating it's installation in late 2007 but i have no other paperwork to say it's been tested since, is there a need for it to be tested before heading to the pits?

Hi woody-t,
from my experience the gas(lpg)tank has a serial number stamped on it and also in the same area manufactured date then when it is retested a tag is attached stating test date. All this is to be found near the inlet and outlet valves.
All tanks gas tanks and gas bottles for that matter are required to be tested every ten years.

Yep, as Hylton says, an install in 2007 may be well and good if all new stuff but that is about the start of the WA and federal grant or rebates for conversions and some (delete unscrupulous) fitted used components (hey the federal stuff says used is allowed as far as AS1425:2007 allows)
Have a look at the underside of the valve protection housing with a mirror, usually rivetted there) It will have WC markings for water capacity, the useable is 80% of that figure, date manufactured, or even a retset stamp date smothered in gold paint to highlight it with a 3 digit number inside an outline of a tall gas cylinder. Need to be internally inspected and safety valve replaced by every tenth anniversary of make date.
Just ask your state RTA for a list of approved LPG inspectors for an annual gas leak safety test certificate and worry about the other stuff if they find the need. You must have a 90% chance it will not be its tenth birthday coming up in next twelve months
Yellow pages for LPG conversions category helpful. process varies from state to state , some inspectors for rego are LPG approved and do the lot, others need a cert from LPG dude then proceed to normal inspection - other states just pop in the mail
