Posted: Wed Sep 22, 2010 1:02 pm
hey guys,

just completed my 2 inch lift on my l series however the 4WD lever in the car constantly stays in 4wd and will go up to lo range however it wont go down to 2WD, so i thought it is my engine stay rod, correct me if im wrong or if u think it could be anything else.

So im guessing this needs adjsting, anyone got any ideas? as in do i buy a new one, adjust the old one, if so how?

cheers,
Angus

I thought it may be too :) :)

There must be some sort of tension somewhere in the engine or gearbox mounts to cause this. I have not done a lift myself so not sure exactly what is involved or whether you built your own or bought a kit and got no instructions. A guess, you altered distance between floor and whole engine and gearbox, so you put an extension on the rubber gear shift to floor mount?

T'subaru has done this and may be online for help now.

Run through a lis of what you boufght, made, changed etc to se if someone can spot it

Try and loosen the bolts on the stay rod mount , the bolts that hold the mount to the box. Let it settle . Start engine and let settle to where it wonts to sit . Which should be one mount at most . Stop engine and retighten the mount back up. Then try range lever again.

When I bought my lift kit 15 years ago, the instructions said something about possibly bending the 4wd/low range lever
