Hi, has anyone replaced the tailshaft centre bearing on a Liberty ?
The bearing is not a listed Subaru part and Subaru want $1,900
for a whole new tailshaft !!!!!!
The bearing is probably a $20 item from a bearing supply store.
Anyone have any ideas on this - maybe a visit to a wrecker is
on the cards.

it wont be $20 for it, you can do it yourself as ive done it before but on a holden, was tricky but i got it apart to replace it. If your not sure take it to drive shaft specialist.

Thanks Guys,
I think I will try to find a complete driveshaft from a wrecker.
Then I can either use that one or refurb it and swap it into my
Liberty when I have some time.
Update - problem fixed.

The vibration wasn't caused by a faulty centre bearing.
It was caused by the front universal joint on the tailshaft. One of the
bearing cups had collapsed and the centre cross shaped section
was loose. I got a complete tail shaft from a wrecker for $80.
For reference the Series 2 sedan and wagon tailshafts are the same.
The auto is different to the manual. ( Auto is shorter )
The universal joints are not repairable. A driveshaft specialist quoted
$650 to cut off the front and rear joints and weld on repairable ones
eg: from a Holden.
The liberty lives on. 472,000 Km and still the original engine although a bit
tired. I have a replacement engine ready to go in my garage !!!
