Do I need to remove the crank? Or can it be done with the engine still together, cheers

no need to remove the crank but you will need to get the flywheel off of course

just gently pry the old seal out (some people drill a small hole in the seal to dig it out)

and use something the same size as the seal as a guide to tap it back into place

The old seal works well for this. It's the same size :)

Another good tip is also clean the 2 surfaces that the seal touches :)

And when installing the new one.. put some rubber grease (or vasoline) on the inside section where the crank runs and put a small bit of three-bond silicone on the outer section where it touches the block.

I also recommend you only use genuine seals but it's up to you :)

Thanks for the tips, will keep that in mind.

As for using genuine seals, I just found a whole gasket set on ebay rather cheap (I think), so that will have to do for now I guess.
