Bin Laden has had a shave ! The Idea of North has nothing to worry about with those finger puppet accapella dudes.

Found Wynns tune up did the trick after about 800kms some fourteen years ago.

Well done.

thicker oil helps this also ;)

i ran hpr50 and a nulon lifter additive in my ea82 and the noise went for a while. Slowly came back, but then i just added more stuff and it was gone again :)

now you know why I never liked the EA82 motor too many Harry Potter related problems

I'm running Cat diesel oil with a genuine suby filter. Noise went, came back. Ran a flush through the engine, back onto cat oil with genuine filter etc...noise comes back when engine is powering off like coming down the Toowoomba Range and letting the car come down on engine pressure with slight braking. Slip down the highway then under load and the noise goes again like the lasher adjuster has bled itself out. Put STP in the oil obviously changing the oil viscosity...noise has gone again. Thinking about putting another STP container in to see if it goes and stays gone.

New lash adjuster from Subaru, Toowoomba (2 in stock) $99 each (no thanks)

PS //Nulon lash adjuster treatment waste of money for me.

mine only ticks when the engine is cold (for now), but may try the lifter goop in the oil as an oil change is due soon (will flush the oil too)

someone in US was selling reco on echange or outright buy at about $8 each. Some aftermarket supplies have done these for about 30 each in Aust.

Well, my dreaded tick tick comes back after a while. I really like all the people in Toowoomba staring at me at the traffic lights.... NOT!! They must think "what a pile of crap!"

Anyway sent an email to the dude in the US mentioned in the previous post. May as well get in there while the Aussie dollar is strong. See if I can buy a set of lash adjuster cores off him for this engine.

If I put a small bottle of STP oil treatment in, (The thick stuff) it shuts it up and gives good oil pressure (of course) so it is definitely about viscosity. I would say one is a bit lazy and as soon as the oil gets a bit of age, it starts ticking. Bloody annoying. Still running caterpillar diesel engine oil though, happy with that. The car flies but just this damn tick tick tick. Engine clearance to the chassis rail is zilch so this will be fun trying to get the rocker covers off.. engine is in a brumby...

u will have to put the engine out of the car to do it \
that will only take u 1 hour
i have been running cat oil for like 1.5 years and i not get much tic tic now
some time a very good hi rpm get the tic out as well
have u ajust the belt tenser as that made my tic tic go away as well and put the timing back in a bit as well run a lot better .
and if u got to put it out u mite want to put new timing belts on as well

No Phil, I havn't adjusted the timing belts but I will do that now because there has been a fair bit said about that. I have to take one of the fans out anyway so I will try to get to the timing cover hatch. The guy from the States sent an email back to me. He doesn't have any cores at the moment and said he would recondition mine if I sent them over. Now I am not going to do that and be out of a car for x amount of time, but if anyone has a spare set of lash adjusters for an EA82T lying around and would like to donate them or sell at small cost and contribute to this experiment, I will send them off to get re done and see how we go.

Went to Toowoomba today and engine has shut up again after another instalation of STP (small bottle.)

Phil, they would be the same I expect..after the lash adjusters... should be on the opposite side of the rocker gear to the valve stem..If I can get a hold of a set, I will send them to USA to get reco..and then put them in. Should be some around or I'll get them off you if you have some..Should be eight I would expect.

they are same for both EA82 and EA82T

I must have got the lucky last cores :)

Sending the heavy little buggers over first is costly

Wonder if USMB is up whether members have some they could donate from within US to Mizpah
