Outback heart transplant
Hi guys - have not been on the forum for some time (been playing with old BMWs) but I have been offered an Outback - 97 I think - with the 2.5 dohc motor with a blown head gasket - my question is will a Liberty 2.2 fit in there (a friends got a good one for $250) without too many problems or would it be better to fix the 2.5 ? cheers pitscars

8 posts since Dec 08.. haha.. yes it has been a long time
Glad to see you still interested in Subies
As for the Outback.. this is just my opinion but I think you'd kick yourself if you fitted a EJ22 instead of the EJ25.. I'd just remove the EJ25 skim the heads and put a set of MLS gaskets on there and replace anything else that might look a bit suss as well
How much can you pick the Outback up for?

If it's still licenced then grab it and just do the head gaskets.. They are still getting 6 to 8 grand for clean ones
