I third that :D

But seriously it is a lot easier to pull the engine out.. just leave as much connected to the engine as possible and use an engine crane to lift it out. Highly recommend you machine the flywheel before fitting the new clutch.. also buy yourself a new spigot bearing (6201) from your local bearing shop :) If you know anyone with a old gearbox pulled apart, grab their input shaft so you can align the clutch perfectly :)

And don't forget to have plenty drinks ready :) Could be a long day

+4 for pull the engine... Then put an EJ back in  You'll love it!

Plus 5 for engine. A trick is to leave the starter motor out and leave the pressure plate 6 X 12mm bolts lose when you put the gearbox and motor back together. Then just do them up throw the starter motor hole. It makes getting the new clutch in the right position a hole lot easier as the clutch plate can move around freely. :)

Heya
Thanks guys for the advice it is surely appreciated. Will be a holiday job. These motors and gearbox setup are different to the rotary car i have for the amount of shit on them.

Spike, the L and WRX clutches are different sizes... If it were a liberty the WRX clutch would fit.

I'd say he'd be going for a standard L clutch plate and probabily a standard pressure plate. No use beefing that up for a standard EA job!

WRX use a completely different clutch pressure plate.. the WRX has a pull clutch and the L.Series has a push clutch but the friction disc from a WRX can be used in a L if needed.

Sorry Bennie but see above reply to Spike.. and just for later knowledge, the L.Series 4WD, Liberty and WRX use a 225mm friction disc. L.Series 2WD use the 200mm disc.

You are right about no use beefing up the EA clutch if it's used in a standard L. Scott (red rocket) can vouch for that.. he was left without his car for over a week due to having a "heavy duty" pressure plate installed.

haha.. no stress bro.. I've been stuck many a times with trying to work out what's what with clutches :(

Bit off the subject (sorry robo) but Bennie can you remember when you fitted your EJ22, did you have to modify all the holes in your EA flywheel or just the ones (I'm thinking 2) that are there for the timing marks? Slightly further apart than the others.

I've got an EJ flywheel in my L series - I re-cased the L series PT4wd gearbox with an EJ front cases. Sorry I'm no help.

Alex, Devil Dave and Subafury Matt should be able to answer that question. AFAIK you had to elongate several holes to make them fit.
