I am a third of the way into removing my 10/84 Brumby engine cross member to exchange in a modified 3/84 FWD engine cross member. modified as in cut small chunk out and braced and welded it all back up again, the chunk is for turbo exhaust clearance - it is only prep as I need to get a wheel alignment, have the time so may as well swap it in now, save a second alignment if fitting cross member at same time as turbo stuff.

I notice now that the central bracing underside for bash plate to bolt up to is not on the FWD cross member. It is spot welded to the Brumby member so can be drilled off and bolted up. No brace makes steering rack removal/replace easy.

Is there any other known differences between 4WD MY and FWD MY in the engine crossmember that I am gonna discover? It is not just engine cross member, it mounts up front control arms, holds steering rack...

If it not going fit and work properly I am gonna be upset to a small degree....

Too late now - it is in. One of the chassis to crossmember nuts had to stay there and strip right in front of my eyes, so it was ground off up top and replaced. Also got my 25mm Selby sway bar fitted up - it was sitting on the family room floor since May (just last year!)

And of course long weekends and you cannot just walk into parts shop and pick up a pair of Brumby tie rods ends. Not a stock item at many parts joints.

One piece of Subaru no longer kicking around the shed floor, against the wall or elsewhere. Another NY resolution to tick off the list and one less reason not to fit EA82T one day into the Brumby
