Hi all,
I thought I would post up my EJ20TT to EJ20T experience in the last few weeks. About 2 weeks before xmas my RS motor spat a big end bearing, with a little ringing around to the importers I so realized that the early motors are getting herder to find, I couldn’t do any thing before xmas so the car sat in the shed pulled apart for 4weeks until I found a motor. First week in the new year I started ringing around again and found the one I got, a 96 twin turbo engine from Allstate Auto imports at Geebung, Miles from AMauto put me on to them, and I recommend them, nice guys to deal with.

So a quick trip to Brisbane and a lighter wallet later I had a new motor. It took me a week of an hour here and hour there to get ready to put in and about an hour and a half to get it to a point were I could start it, bearing in mind I was working by myself.

I had some fun finding the bungs here in town to seal off the LH head, what I ended up finding and using was a core/welsh plug 15mm from memory to block off the oil return line, and of all things I found a sump plug at super cheap to block of the water line hole, they are M12x1.25 but I found anything you buy from a bolt place is to long, this is nice and short. Pics tell 1000 words so here are some.

The core/welsh plug, i pick this up from the local motor reco place for $1 15mm i sure it is

The sump plug, I also used the copper washer from the banjo fitting to seal it, this i found at super cheap for $4.50 but any auto store should have M12x1.25 sump plug.

Installed (notice the void if removed tag bottom left, must be a jap thing?)

Another thing a found to bung up the oil feed line for the LH turbo on the front of the RS head there is the same hole, which had a bung in it, so a quick swap was done.

Hello good heads and no more lifter tick!! Are there what they call bucket and shim?? Such a better design than there early heads by far!!!

I also decided to use the TT header tank, to do this had to space it up from RS the manifold to clear the P/S lines, I think about 25mm. I also had to drill a new hold to match my manifold and cut out part of the angle alloy moulding.

I then cut down the old TT motor heard tank bracket for the bottom mount.

Although because I made this while the motor was still out of the car a didn’t take into account my AFM and intake pipe, so there is not much space at all!!! I guess with a stock RS intake this woul'nt be a issue.

After I plugged the coil packs in ( just let I crank over to get oil pressure) it started first hit!! And it was sooooo quiet!! I was a very happy man at this point, and so far so good. And for what its worth the car seems to hual pretty well now. I am only running the stock vf10 and about 10psi of boost, it seems to be on boost quicker than the other motor as well. Taking it for a good run this weekend so I will see how it goes on the hiway.

I hope this post will help someone else in the future to do this conversion.

Bryan.

yeah maurice is a pretty good guy if you dealt with him. bought an engine off him a little while ago and will probably get a ej20 off him. there's a shipping container that should have just arrived by now or any day now

that void if removed tag normally means the heads have been reconditioned at some point

I feel like I posted this before in this thread but I can't see my post
