Knock sensor

Hi guys,
Is there any difference between the knock sensor in a '98 Liberty running a ej25 n/a and a 2000 forestor GT running a ej25 n/a besides the part numbers.
i.e anything to do with spark timing etc.
the sensor in my liberty is shot and my mate has a spare for his forestor that I can get hold of.
Subaru tells me they have none in stock and there is 30 on backorder from japan.
If matey's is not interchangable with mine it might be a trip to the wreckers.
Cheers for any advice,
Aardvark:)

First off,.. Welcome to AUSubaru !!!

Question.... why does your mate have an EJ25 in his Forester GT? They are normally an EJ20 Turbo

As for the knock sensor, they are usually tuned to the resonant frequency of knock for that particular engine. So at a guess i cant see why you cant swap them if they are both from a EJ25.

Thanks for the quick reply super.
Jeez nearly blew my hat off:)
Don't know if matey's is a ej20t but it's a good point I'll have to check.
If it is then its a trip to the wreckers I guess unless you've got any suggestions man.
Got get one soon or the missus will get ticked off having to drive the truck around ha ha:rolleyes: (pffffff like I'd let her near me truck)
Cheers for the help mate:-D

Is yours the EJ25D DOHC 2.5l? If it is your out of luck.
If its the EJ251 SOHC, then if your mates actually has the EJ205 2l Turbo, and his is built between 3/98 - 7/00, then they are the same, so swap away.
If its after 8/00, again your out of luck.
And if your mate has an N/A 2.5l in what was a Turbo Forester he's doing it wrong...
