head gaskets, what are you using?

Post by T'subaru » Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:42 pm

I just picked up my heads for an ea82t from the machine shop and was suprised at the cost of engine overhaul gasket sets, 'bout 220.00 usd. I've read where some of you are buying yours from the us. What are you getting/using?
Cheers, Mark
Scratch the 220.00, Just purchased complete engine set including turbo gaskets for 123.00 usd, mfg by Ishino, oem Subaru.

In my GLTA I am running Ajusa Brand gaskets. There a Spanish made gasket & make OE gaskets for Nissan & most Euro vehicles.

I used Ajusa in my rebuild. I always thought they were made in Sth or Central America by Spanish speaking community. I am yet to dismantle from 6 months ago to find out if I failed my gaskets by not retensioning immediately after firsat warm up or they failed me, or the heads welds cracked.

EDIT I thought wrong. head office in Spain, then there is Adjusa usa in the USA, nothing to do with South America

I'm working on that in case anyone is interested. We have a national chain of CarQuest auto parts stores. Carquest purchased a company called Worldpac that offers a pretty extensive line of import parts. I have a toll free number to their corporate to find out how and if overseas customers can purchase direct as the retail stores have no internet. I will post my findings next weekend. (carquest.com)
btw, they no longer offer a complete overhaul set, the head set ran 81.00 and the balance of the 123.00 was f&r mains, rear viton or silicone, front appears to be standart, turbo and oil pan gaskets.

Sorry X, not trying to interfer with another mans livelyhood. I felt the costs were out of proportion with production considering the amount of L series on the road and posted up my findings.
