Hi guys
I know that there was a lot of disscussion on cleasning out noisy lifters on the old board . Some of the suggestions were combinations of kero and oil , diesel and oil and just straight diesel to name a few.
I have done the normal stuff like commercial additives ,different oils etc but still have the occassional lifter tick.
It is not a constant ticking and only occourrs mainly when the engine has not yet reach proper operating temp, some times when just cruising along but doesnt tick for long.
I can make the ticking go away most times by turning off the engine and then restarting.
Has anyone used more radical remedies and have they worked?????.

Have you checked the oil pressure during lifter tick and during normal operation? May have an intermitant oil pressure problem. If the lifters were plugged up I'd expect to see the problem linger.

Yes That too ,he made a point of doing just that from when cold and through to normal temperature. He did find some variation in pressure while it was running. but still well within acceptable limits.
He did notice the ticking but said my car was not bad having worked on subies far worse.
has suggested trying high detergent type oils to try clean out internals.

Well that might work if you're getting plugged lifters. The other alternative is to try running diesel for a few minutes at idle. I've done this before with no ill effects.
Does the lifter tick coincide with high oil pressure or low if you remember?

New oil pump kit and also the pump drive, new cam seals and o-rings. Fuchs 15w50 Ultra Lube oil (turbo diesel oil) and filter. Then take for a hard drive ie 2nd at 70km etc. 10 km is always good. We do this at work on a weekly basis. Only ever had to change a couple that had ticked for 18 months.

Did you mean "70km/h in 2nd gear for 10kms" ?
Would this be ok for EA82T as well?

Only a km or so then a decent drive. The same for any EA82.
