EJ timing cover question

I need some info on ej16, ej18 and ej22 SOHC timing covers
1. are they the same length for all these motors?
2. if not are the ej16 and ej18 covers interchangeable?
3. how many internal guides are inside the covers?
4. how long could you run an engine without the covers?

not sure. If you want i got some covers here for ej22. Running without the covers would let water and dirt get in, it could make the pulleys start to rust or something can get caught between the teeth and cause the belt to slip.

EJ18 timing parts (belt, pulleys, tensioner, covers) are interchangeable with EJ22.
EJ16s have a shorter stroke, so i imagine they'd be different.
What do you mean by internal guides?

belt followers Ive seen them advertised on ebay to stop belt slap (little plastic guides)
not the belt adjuster

Righto, just found them on ebay. None of the NA EJs I've looked at have had guides like that, or space to mount one.

why would you want belt snap for?
EJ18 & EJ22 are the same, havent came across to EJ16 yet.

Slap, not snap. The guides in question are mounted very close to (but not touching, I guess) the back of the belt on the pulleys, to stop the belt from jumping around too much in rapid acceleration/deceleration.

Today is the first time I've heard about it. Did some reading, and it seems to happen mostly in highly tuned turbo engines running high lift cams.

That is what I thought, I thought for one minute thinking it must've been me not revving hard enough with my EJ22!

so the ej 18 and the ej22 are the same which should mean the ej16 is the same but I suppose I wont know until I try to fit a set of covers onto an engine
