This thread was pointed out to me over at USMB .
Since the native DR locking EJ18 boxes are kicking around in NZ I thought a few of you would be interested .

Don't know how strong they'd be or if they'd hack turbo torque in an EJ weight car , only one way to find out .

Cheers A .

Edit - After reading thru the posts, I think its an EA box with diff locker in it... I havent seen an EJ box with diff locker because if there was one I would have it by now!

The go would be to get pics of the linkage side of the complete gearbox , that way you could see if it was a "long" EJ type box with the diff locks fork linkage . The EA type AWD rear extension is different/shorter because the center diff is behind the transfer gears not in front of like in an EJ's gearbox .
BTW by "transfer gears" mean the pair that take the drive back up to the rear output shaft not the hi/low transfer gears .

The right pics should give the game away .

Some people in Victoria (Gareth) found a way to do a locking center diff conversion to an EJ AWD type box but it still had teething problems last time I asked him about it .

Assuming the Kiwi box is a real one you should be able to build a reasonably strong box around it , it may be as simple as changing the extension over with its different guts .

Interesting times , cheers A .

If there is locking centre diff in EJ box, then i would be interested.
I'll ask kiwishooter again if he could provide photos.

Well Kiwishooter went on to say they are an EJ gearbox and knows of them still bolted into Legy's .

Save your money up , cheers A .

Actually you may want to ask him if there is a factory WSM available with all the ratio etc specs , maybe the VIN number of one could help out .
One of his pics shows the ID sticker on a gearbox so could search that as well .
