Gearbox hi light does not work

Post by guyph_01 » Sun Aug 23, 2009 7:38 pm

Hi guys,

For some reason he light on my dash does not light up when i put the car in 4WD hi. When in low the little yellow/orange light goes on but in hi i have no green ligth.

The conections look ok on the box. Could it be the round plug behing the speedo? would it be the black or white one?

Or any other ideas on what it could be.
Thx

So you are saying that the 4wd symbol on the dash only works in 4wd low

Well id say the problem is in the little switch on the side of the geabox

Just a guess , but how about the bulb, it might be blown.

Funny story,

i was driving back home tonight and played with the stick at every red light on the way. What happens is everytime i move the stick from 2wd to 4wd hi, the indicator light just flashes. After 4 red lights i figured and got the light to go on only when i gently put the stick like its in between changing gears from 2 to 4wd hi. After two other red lights, once i got to that middle spot if i wiggle the stick and make it go in 4wd hi, the light stays on. And finally after a few other red lights, now when i put it in 4wdhi light goes on like normal. haha

So, could it be a faulty switch? could it be loose wires? also where is that switch situated on the box?

Mine does that too.

When I put it into Hi Range I have to jiggle it for the Hi Light to come on.

I found that same switch on my box needed a clean out with CRC556 (Subarus choice of juice) and also needed an extra washer to correctly space it to function correctly.

located? that is pushing the memory! there was three switches all on the rear selector housing on my 92 L series box in me BRumby, and from that failing memory some boxes were different. If you can get underneath and disconnect or unscrew one by one and check function of reverse lights, hi and lo selector lights may help, accessability may not as some connectors were held in place by wire wraps between box and body
