i replaced the two clips on the thrust bearing with wire that wraps around each side into the holes of that fork it attaches to. I am now assuming there has to be some forwards/backwards movement of the bearing that the original clips allowed.

checking my previous car , (that officially died last night, RIP) i see that instead of the two standard clips, split pins were used to attach the bearing tightly to the fork, so that gave me the idea to use wire. Just not sure if this will cause problems over time. cheers !

Wire was alternative, Ive done it once before as i lost the clip and the wreckers/shops was closed. Wouldnt matter, when you put the thust bearing back in, bend the clips so it'll hold it on.
Cheers
