EJ18 heads onto EJ22?

Post by GOD » Tue Jul 14, 2009 10:22 pm

Has anyone here tried building an EJ frankenmotor? I'm soon to pick up an 1992 EJ22 with possible head issues. I have a 1996 EJ18 with good heads, so I'm thinking about using them on the 22. There's a bit of info on NASIOC and USMB, but that's all USDM cars and mostly turbos.

The smaller chamber in the EJ18 heads would obviously give higher compression (about 10:1, according to my very rough calcs), so it'd need PULP. There are mixed reports about ports and flow capabilities of the smaller displacement engines. Has anyone actually looked at them? It'd be nice to know before I crack open my good engine.

I'll be sticking with the EJ18 computer and harness (and manifold, sensors, ancillaries, etc as necessary). I know that's not optimal, but if the job starts getting expensive I won't bother.

Thoughts please.

Dane.

I'd take the heads into a head place and get a quote on fixing up em myself. Might be worth it...they may only need a skim.

remember that engine has done over 280000 km you would best be checking the whole thing over before you commit to buliding an EJ frankenmotor otherwise it could come back with a mob of villagers to haunt you Image
