Auto trans leaks into front diff

Yet again my trans is pumping fuild into the front diff, which then comes out of the filler tube then on to the exhaust. Lovely smell, not. Does anyone know what would cause an auto trans to pump fuild into the diff. Steve at rising sun has replaced seals and o-rings a few times. But it has just happened again on Saturday. Would like to solve problem, as it makes it difficult to get to work(when I get any).

You'd think if anyone would know , it would be Steve. Cannot recall if an auto has a breather like manuals and diffs. If they get blocked or breather hose gets crimped it can lead to pressure inside, causing fluid to get out the easiest path. I'd check back with Steve

my old L auto did the same thing...there is a plate with seals that devide the box from the diff....that stuffed out on mine....cure...changed to 5 speed...auto never leaked again

sounds like you have excessive pressure in the box whixch is causing the seals to fail especially if its filling the transaxle to overflowing out the filler tube

what type of car is the box in?

TOONGA

It;s in a "L" series subby. 5-speed would be nice but I don't think I could afford to at the moment. Would rather get the auto fixed, then later on think about another car when I am earning some money.

I'm sorry to say, my fix was the same as chubbys - went to a manual 5 speed and the leak stopped. Bought the whole car for $250 so given all the spares I got off it for that and all the goodies I have tossed, it was cheaper than paying anyone to R & R the box and fix it. May be the case for you too.
