as you might have read in my other post i reckon my drivers side head has cracked.

is there anything that brings these cracks on quickly? just so i can be carefull when its fixed. i would hate to have to pull the heads every 2 weeks!!!!!

Large or sudden changes in temperature cause cracks in heads, thats why simply overheating an ea82 cracks the head so quickly.

Ive heard that repaired heads are never as good as they were and are a weak link. Your best bet is to find an MPFI head and use it instead.

are the mpfi heads any diff? i think there is a set at u-pullit.

just had a shower and a think, could having the exhaust only mounted off the rubber mounts from the body (other than encluding solid mount on the gearbox) and turbo help crack the head? because only last weekend i did bolt the mount from exhaust to gearbox. befor that it was only hanging off turbo and rubbers.

also my stay rod was loose on the engine side... any of these help it get crackalacking?

Nah the crack is internal. No external forces could have caused it.

What side head is causing you hassle?

The distributor side heads are identical between MPFI and turbo, the turbo side though is different. Not by much though, the turbo side head has 2 extra holes, for oil supply and return to the turbo. A head shop should be able to drill and tap the holes for you

its the turbo side head, i'll take it off and get it repaired. you never know what your getting from a self pull wrecker. it will cost me nothing to get the head repaired.

i have two heads that have been fairly ported but have cracks as well, might get them to see what can be done with them.

na mpfi heads exhaust valves are not the same as the mpfi turbo

beginning to think a head repair as far as cracks go is worth nothing
