I am trying to find out how to pull the Front Main Seal on a 4 Speed Dual Range Box (Brumby)? Has anyone done this? Also does anyone have a part number for the seal? (Aftermarket). I have pulled everything off and the cast piece holding the seal in won't move. (Clutch fork and 3 bolts holding it in).

Cheers
Matt

why delete? you not ask stupid question, I wish that was all you had to do to replace the front seal! From what I have found it looks like the whole box has to come apart to do!!

your kidding?? the whole thing, bearing and all came out from outside without pulling box apart? can same be done on the L series 5 speed 4wd too?

The bearing stayed in place, however mine actually broke 3/4 of the way out. No ill effect but because it broke in one small piece (old cast steel, tend to break). I have no idea on the L series sorry....

the box needs to come apart to do this
it probley broke because the bearign is held in the carrier with a circlip
i dont know how you got this apart with the box together but it sounds like there was a lot of hammering

AFAIK to replace this seal on the MY 4 spd and L series 5 spd you have to split the box  So painful for such a little thing.

I wouldn't be putting it back together and driving without fully exploring what you've done - you don't know what could be floating around or isn't supported/held in place the way it should be.

Split the box and go from there.

My Ute has done about 100km so far and no wierd noises, etc since i put it back together. The circlip on mine seemed to be on the outside of the bearing. The piece the seal sits in had to spring loaded pins in to hold it in. I guess time will tell....

Hi Guys, i cant believe i was trying to do the same thing today on my 1990 brumby. The 3 bolt retaining cover wouldnt come of so I put a pully on it and snapped it. Cannot find a manual for the box (have a basic gregorys 501 useless for rebuilding boxes) any ideas for info on rebuilding box. Have started splitting the box. But guidance will save time and more disaster. Thanks in advance .
