just a question in regards to ej-ea swaping (i want awd in a L),
if i was only wanting to swap the ej single range awd internals in to a ea box would it be easy?

i think i seen some where you use the rear of the ej box?

can the front stubs be left inplace so standard shafts will fit?

can a front wheel drive box be used to modify?

this will be the first time i crack a box so any help would be good.

This is true, it will bolt straight up to the rear of either box

They should swap over without too much work

I don't see why not - it doesn't need the dual range gearing but has all the same bolting patterns.

I will be able to answer that question later, I dont have the pictures of EA box.

You can use EJ Single Range AWD in EA box without dual range, just remove the dual range section in the EA box... Here is a pic of single range AWD -



You can use EJ Transfer case on EA box but you will need to use EJ internals.

I dont know about FWD & AWD, from memory I think the main shaft is different because at the end of the pinion shaft has part for the centre diff where about FWD wouldn't need it???.

Front diff - As El Freddo said above - can be done.

You do. And yes - this is what I'm hoping to do when I get my hands on a 3.7 dual range AWD lib box

Bascially the rule is that what ever rear end you use the matching internals must go with it. For example: An EJ rear to EA "diff housing" case MUST use EJ internals; An EA rear to EJ diff housing case MUST use EA internals. This is due to the rear casings being specifically built for their internals of the factory gearbox. Hope that makes sense.

Thats right, because the EA box has dual range section in the front & rear of the box where about EJ doesn't have, as in the EJ box its at the front only. EJ box has centre diff which EA doesn't have
You can't simply use EJ gearing with EA rear casing it wont work, it'll bolt on but there wont be any gearing, same with EA in EJ - vice versia.. You have to use EJ internals in EA box or use L series Low Range in EJ box with EJ internals.

If you're still not sure, let me know and I'll take a picture of what its like in EA box...
